This portrait is a tribute to the actress Maggie Smith, aka ”Violet Crawley” in the serie ”Downtown Abbey”. Her remarkable performance made her become my favourite character. So many subtleties in her acting transforms this birdie-like old refined lady into one of the best spectator’s accomplice. Her spontaneous sallies; never quite expected and well timed literally makes you laugh out loud in front of your tv!  A pure delight…

This digital painting was made in photoshop, and for the first time I tried this technique of painting in black and white, before bringing the colour in. I think it works for that one. I’ll have to explore this technique’s advantages and inconvenients…!

Ce portrait est un hommage à l’actrice Maggie Smith aka ”Violet Crawley” dans la série ”Downtown Abbey”. Sa performance remarquable en a fait mon personnage préféré. Tant de subtilités dans son jeu font de cette dame raffinée aux allures d’oiseau votre meilleur allié en tant que spectateur. Ses boutades spontanées, inattendues et parfaitement ”timées’ vont arracheront des rires devant votre télé! Un pure délice…

Cette peinture digitale a été réalisée dans photoshop, et pour la première fois je me suis essayé à la technique de peindre en noir et blanc avant d’y ajouter la couleur en dernier. Cela donne un aspect intéressant. Il faudra que j’explore les avantages et les inconvénients de cette technique…!

I registered to this class called ”Drawing Fundamentals” in order to consolidate my drawing skills. My teacher is the great Thomas Fluharty, from the online school for artists Schoolism. It’s been two weeks today that I started, and so far I’m happy of what I learned regarding shapes and values.

This one is my last assignment on Values, which I found quite challenging but also a lot of fun to do!

This post is to announce my new collaboration with writer & blogger Antoine Calatayud, for the website LE PLANCHER QUI CRAQUE. Antoine writes fictions and truths that inspire us all, and I feel privileged to illustrate his texts from now on! The texts are in French, but you can still look at the images my friends:) I’m publishing both versions that I made of the illustrations for this story: one in pastel colors & the other in complementary colors (final version). The story is about a teacher who falls in love with his younger student, and all the complications in his life as a result of it.
